I never thought in a million years that I would be that girl, you know, the girl that gets pregnant while she’s still a teenager with a guy she’s only been dating for a few months. Yeah, well, turns out it was my destiny because I have absolutely no idea what my life would look like if I hadn’t become that girl. The journey I have enveloped myself in while being that girl has taught me more and empowered me more than, I believe, any other path this life could have taken me down.
I am twenty-one, may I add freshly twenty-one. I have yet to legally buy myself alcohol, which quite frankly, I have very little interest in doing. Due to being sixteen weeks pregnant on, apparently, the most important birthday of my life, partying was not my choice of celebration. Although I’m not sure that I would have celebrated my birthday much differently if I hadn’t been pregnant because honestly, my party days ended before I turned eighteen. And let me tell you, eighteen was the beginning of the most life changing years of my life, I’m not sure I would have survived the next sequence of events in my life if partying followed me into the eighteenth year of life.
Only weeks before my nineteenth birthday my boyfriend and I found out that we would be welcoming a baby into the world in October of 2017. My boyfriend, whom is now my beloved husband, had a child with another woman when he was only sixteen years old. He is a year younger than me so he was freshly eighteen when we found out that we were expecting. Life changed pretty quickly, although we were young, we knew we were capable of being parents.
A few months out from my due date my soon-to-be husband enlisted in the US Army, to be shipped out to basic training only a week after our son would be born. Here’s where life got interesting. We got married days before our son was born and thus started our life. A brand new baby, a new last name, a step child, and a husband hundreds of miles away from me. He was away at basic training for about five months, so as you can imagine my life was stressful to say the least.
Fast forward to present day, Monday April 1st 2019. A beautiful home with a beautiful family living inside. There is a lot of chaos at times, but man oh man is that chaos only a resemblance of the love we all share for each other. My husband, myself, our two boys and baby number three on the way. We could not be more blessed to be alongside each other on this crazy journey.
Sometimes being that girl is the biggest blessing in disguise. Never take what life throws at you for granted because really, life is full of lessons. The good, the bad, it all comes with a huge life lesson. There is not one single second of your life that is guaranteed, so never, and I mean NEVER belittle the importance of your life.
More to come… (:
